About Us
Wooden You Know is an independent, family-owned toy store. The idea for the business started with the birth of our daughter and the desire to find quality, non-toxic toys for her to play with. We quickly realized that finding good sources for these playthings is often difficult. Catalogs and websites don’t provide the experience of picking up and playing with a toy or reading through a book or listening to music that you sometimes need to do before you buy it. We knew we needed to bring this family-friendly store into our neighborhood! We opened our doors in October 2004 and are thrilled to be a part of the Maplewood/South Orange Community.
At Wooden You Know, we provide alternatives to the “throw-away” culture that surrounds children’s toys. We specialize in toys, games and crafts that encourage children to actively develop their imaginations, providing engaging experience that will help them think independently, interact with their environment and their family and peers. We do not carry mass-marketed merchandise. What you will find are heirloom-quality toys, unique puzzles, games, books, and music. We also carry a variety of craft projects and art supplies, as well as organic products.
Whenever possible, we choose European manufactured because of the higher safety standards imposed and the quality of product. We also seek out small, independent US manufacturers and support those that use renewable resources and promote fair trade.

I am so sad with the news. I used to buy all of the toys for all the birthday parties and holidays at your store. You're store was so unique and exactly the type of toy store I enjoy. Both me and my husband love toys that are simple, educational, and that do not require batteries only to make annoying noises. All we ever needed Wooden You Know had it. And with our son being only 21 m.o. we were looking forward to many years of buying cute educational toys at Wooden You Know.
We are very sad that you're closing, but wish you the very best. And hope that your future projects will be as creative, successful, and interesting as this one was.
